Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Director of Nursing is responsible for developing, planning, implementing and managing all aspects of the medical department for a substance abuse treatment facility.  Responsible for ensuring that all medical services are delivered in accordance with established standards and regulations in compliance with license and credentialing requirements.  Will obtain and manage all medical services contracts and vendors for the facility.  Works with multi-disciplinary departments to ensure and facilitate compliance with all Quality Assurance and Improvement standards and parameters.  Will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to several staff of licensed and professional medical staff and providers to optimize and accomplish organizational goals and benchmarks.  This position is a role model for the “I CARE” values and embraces “Believable Hope”.   

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the facility medical department in coordination with the Medical Director and facility CEO.
  • Supervise all medical providers and nursing staff to ensure that all medical documentation and medical care requirements are met pursuant to regulatory standards and practice and is in compliance with all licensing and credentialing regulations and standards.
  • Regular inspection of medical charts both open and closed to ensure compliance with QI & QA Policy & procedures, as well as all other regulatory, funding, and clinical and medical standards.
  • Supervise, monitor, and document staff delivery of all medical services.
  • Ensure all required detox services and protocols are met and delivered in a timely manner and pursuant to regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Obtain and manage all medical services and vendor contracts.
  • Meet with multi-disciplinary leaders on a daily basis to report any facility/staff/or client concerns or problems.
  • Uphold all licensure and credentialing policies and procedures, especially as it relates to the medical aspect of treatment.
  • Work in conjunction with onsite pharmacist or contract pharmacist regarding medication oversight and destruction of medication.
  • Responsible for recommending and ensuring regulatory staffing patterns & managing annual budget.
  • Ensure that shifts are covered by all levels of staff and that staff are actively involved in the medical treatment, admission and census process and aware of all elements of its implementation.
  • Ensure that all client medical needs and appointments are maintained and kept on a timely basis.
  • Implement and monitor medical Utilization Review functions and requirements for the entire medical department in compliance with established company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the appropriate number of client cases is presented at each Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting and that current and accurate medical information and medical appointments and specific medical developments are reported thoroughly and completely.
  • Develop and Implement departmental policies and procedures as needed to address client and/or staff issues and needs.
  • Ensure that all medical staff and contractors comply with HR and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to supervisory level personnel as needed to help maximize managerial performance and ability.
  • Responsible and accountable for managing direct reports
  • Preparation and presentation of performance evaluations
  • Provides objective feedback to employees
  • Makes appropriate compensation recommendations, if applicable
  • Provides appropriate training for department and hold staff accountable for attending required training
  • Holds interviews for vacant positions and makes appropriately selects candidates to fill open positions
  • Responsible for recommending and ensuring regulatory staffing patterns & managing annual budget.
  • Monitors adherence to company and department policies, procedures and practices
  • Creates and supports a positive, professional, team-oriented, harassment free work environment by understanding and complying with the company’s policies

Qualifications

Education / Experience:

  • BSN and at least 10 years of experience as a registered nurse with 5 years in management, supervisory or director level role in a treatment facility or hospital setting.
  • Three to five years of addiction experience preferred.
  • RN License in State of practice
  • Certification in Addiction preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
