Responsibilities

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Carpenter will perform a variety of carpentry projects where accuracy, spacing, fit and structural soundness or appearance is essential. Will perform work on interior and exterior of buildings. Familiar with the aspects of remodeling and renovations of areas.

 

The carpenter will also work as a maintenance technician performing a variety of functions in the upkeep and repair of building and related equipment. This role will also participate in other related safety checks, audits and inspections as well as assisting in painting, plumbing air conditioning or electrical repairs as necessary.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation.
  • Constructs frame work and installs floors, walls and ceiling covering.
  • Will repair shelves, counters, storage cabinets, hang doors, install locks and other similar hardware.
  • May replace glass and repair tables, chairs and other facility equipment.
  • Uses all carpentry hand tools including but not exclusive to: power tools, bench saw, radial arm saw, jointer, drill, sander for molding, nail gun, miter, etc. and follows operating procedures.
  • Operates hand tools for the trade following safety protocols. Cleans and maintains work areas; stores and maintains equipment.

General Maintenance

  • Performs typical maintenance tasks to support the entire facility(ies) and grounds.
  • Will perform seasonal work outside including snow removal, spreading salt/sand and maintaining the grounds.
  • Detects and reports defective material or questionable conditions to the Facilities Director.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows departmental safety protocols.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on company equipment and on buildings as needed.
  • Receives and responds to work orders via WorxHub; follows up as needed. Communicates any issues that need the support of the Director of Facilities.
  • Makes general repairs to buildings, door, walls, floors, windows, furniture, etc.
  • Maintains required records and performs safety checks in compliance with JACHO, DPH & OSHA.
  • Cleans both exterior and interior job sites and vehicles using appropriate tools and equipment.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in general building maintenance preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use and maintenance of trades tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. (English)
  • Possess a valid State of Massachusetts Driver’s License.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • OSHA 10 certified preferred
  • Home Improvement Contractor license or similar license/certification
