Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Assessment & Treatment

  • Complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation within 48 hours of admission for each assigned patient, documenting DSM5TR diagnoses, risk assessment (including suicide/self-harm and violence), and treatment plan.
  • Conduct and document in EMR follow up progress notes.
  • Initiate and manage medication assisted treatment (MAT) (e.g., buprenorphine, methadone per facility policy, naltrexone) and psychopharmacology for cooccurring disorders.
  • Provide withdrawal management using standardized protocols (e.g., CIWA-Ar, COWS) and adjunctive medications as indicated.
  • Order and interpret appropriate labs/diagnostics; coordinate psychiatric/medical comorbidity care with nursing and clinical staff.
  • Conduct risk assessments (suicide, violence, capacity) and provide emergent evaluations as required.
  • Document all patient encounters and diagnostic test results accurately and timely in the EMR.

Interdisciplinary Care & Teamwork

  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Consult with other physicians/clinicians about each patient’s needs; refer to specialists, as necessary.
  • Lead or participate in daily team rounds, case reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Attend medical staff meetings with pertinent clinical staff and Utilization Review.
  • Actively participate on clinical/medical committees as requested by the facility ED or Medical Director, provide education, and contribute to quality review.

Compliance, Quality & Professional Standards

  • Comply with all applicable laws including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements.
  • Meet and maintain facility credentialing and privileging requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and regulatory compliant documentation.
  • Uphold the policies and procedures of [Facility Name] and American Addiction Centers.
  • Establish positive, professional relationships with the local medical community and within the organization.
  • Consistently demonstrate effective teamwork, excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, and a positive customer service attitude.
  • Maintain the highest ethical and moral standards among all employees, contractors, and patients.

Other Duties

  • Willing to work evening hours and weekends if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facility Medical Director.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • MD or DO with completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Psychiatry.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice psychiatry in [State].
  • Current, unrestricted DEA Certification.
  • Current BLS Certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Board Certification or eligibility (ABPN) required within 24 months of hire.
  • Experience with SUD and cooccurring disorders in inpatient or residential settings preferred.
  • Fellowship training or significant experience in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Patient centered, trauma informed, culturally responsive care.
  • Evidence based psychopharmacology and MAT expertise.
  • Strong risk assessment, crisis stabilization, and de-escalation skills.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with persons from diverse socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds.
  • Computer literate with ability to utilize EMR system.
