Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Nurse Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating the nursing staff schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage in an inpatient drug and alcohol detox facility. This position supports the Director of Nursing by providing administrative assistance, managing staffing logistics, and ensuring compliance with facility policies and state regulations regarding nurse staffing levels.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the master schedule for all nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and nursing assistants, to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate call-outs, PTO requests, and staffing shortages while minimizing the use of overtime and agency staff.
  • Coordinate float staff and shift swaps in collaboration with nursing leadership.
  • Track attendance, tardiness, and call-outs, and report trends to the Director of Nursing.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff availability, credentials, licenses, and certifications.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with staff regarding schedule changes, open shifts, and facility needs.
  • Assist with onboarding new nursing staff by providing schedule orientation and assisting with shift assignments.
  • Support the Director of Nursing in staffing audits, reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a point of contact for scheduling-related inquiries from nursing staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications and scheduling practices.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the development of scheduling policies and procedures.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities and complete duties in the allotted time. 
  • Demonstrates respect for all patients, supervisors, nursing and medical staff, other employees, visitors, families, and referral sources.
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times in the care of the patients and the use of the facility property.
  • Strictly adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies. 
  • Participates in all required mandatory training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Eventually take over the medical supply ordering

 

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or healthcare-related coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare scheduling or administrative support in a nursing or hospital setting.
  • Experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment settings preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Products, and scheduling software.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

 

Compensation Transparency: In accordance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act, the reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $18.98 – $25.47 per hour. Actual compensation within this range will depend on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and relevant qualifications. Generally, placement within the upper portion of the range is reserved for candidates with several years of directly related experience or exceptional expertise.
