Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Payment Poster is responsible for posting all insurance payments.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Prepare, organize and calculate insurance payment batches ensuring the totals are accurate.
  • Post each batch confirming patient’s account number, date of service, name, and date of birth ensuring payment is being applied to correct account.
  • Apply all proper adjustments to patient accounts including deductible, copays, coinsurance and contractual adjustments and direct denials to the appropriate department. 
  • Verify batch totals and edit and reconcile all posted payment batches ensuring accounts have been balanced and batches are closed.
  • Review and complete cash application forms and communicate with the aging teams on any issues.
  • Assist in researching unidentified payments and/or recoupments determining the correct transaction including refund requests and take backs.
  • Generate weekly reports defined by supervisor to safeguard month end close and productivity goals.
  • Assist with month end close.
  • Monitor insurance accounts and communicate insurance issues, trends, reimbursement setbacks, or other issues related to payment posting, adjustments or denials that may affect cash flow.
  • Work closely with management ensuring efficient processes are understood and implemented in accordance with policies and procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is expected
  • Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • One year of billing experience.
  • Understanding of an explanation of benefits (EOB) is required
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective communications skills.
  • Efficient use of communications technologies.
  • Working knowledge of CPSI
  • Must have a working knowledge of Zirmed, Availity, Exchange Healthcare and other insurance websites.
  • Excellent data entry skills required.
  • Proficient math skills and statistical analysis.  Must be able to analyze information and problem solve.
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office, SalesForce, Google Products a plus.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented with the ability to handle several tasks at the same time.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined by the company, as well as governmental regulations.

Compensation Transparency: In accordance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act, the reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $25.66 – $38.48 per hour. Actual compensation within this range will depend on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and relevant qualifications. Generally, placement within the upper portion of the range is reserved for candidates with several years of directly related experience or exceptional expertise.
