    Job Summary:

    The primary role of the Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) is to provide support in the pre-analytical phases of testing for the Toxicology laboratory including specimen, reagent, and plate prep; assist and enhance the general toxicology workflow; serve as liaison between multiple internal departments.


    Reports To: Medical Laboratory Manager


    Please note:  This is PRN coverage for Saturday and Sunday shift, 8:00am-4:30pm hours


    Job Duties:

    • Daily instrument maintenance.
    • Daily toxicology plate prep for all modes.
    • Daily loading of plates on LCMS equipment.
    • Daily review of calibrators and QC to ensure run is acceptable.
    • Weekly prep of reagents, controls, calibrators.
    • Assist in locating samples, compiling data, and storing samples for regulatory bi-annual correlations and split sample testing.
    • Assist in the ordering of supplies and inventory management.
    • Train new staff as needed.
    • Provide additional support to Accessioning, Clinical, PGX, and Research and Development as needed.
    • Serves as a liaison for all other internal ALA departments as needed.
    • Assist in the oversight and management of specified TATs.
    • Field and direct phone calls.
    • Create and provide documentation of reagent/calibration/QC records.


    Job Requirements:

    • Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    • Two years’ experience within a clinical laboratory environment.
    • Previous experience with LIMS, Orchard LIMS preferred.
    • Ability to understand clinical workflows.
    • Excellent manual dexterity and knowledge of correct pipetting techniques.
    • Ability to follow procedure as written and/or instructed.
    • Understanding of practical lab math and ability to perform calculations and dilutions as needed.
    • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and edit work for spelling and grammar.
    • Ability to speak clearly and professionally; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates knowledge of concepts and able to implement into workflows; and participates in meetings.
    • Receive inbound calls from physicians, laboratories, nurses, clients, sales reps and direct those calls to appropriate personnel and communicate with clients, as necessary.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office product such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Candidates in recovery must have 2+ years of sobriety.
