Job Summary

The Facility Nurse Educator (FNE) is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating relevant educational sessions and curricula (skills-based and knowledge based) to nursing and client care staff. This responsibility includes incorporating evidenced-based research into evidenced-based practices, accounting for AAC standards, accrediting bodies of Joint Commisions and/or CARF, and state regulations. The FNE will collaborate with the medical department, therapy department, nursing department and others to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for our patient population. This role includes provision of both classroom and real-time clinical learning opportunities for new healthcare team members and existing healthcare team members. Additionally, the FNE will coordinate with other Facility and Corporate staff as needed to review, develop, and implement changes to; policies and procedures, electronic health records, and job-aids.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

The FNE must be able to successfully and satisfactorialy perform the following educational leadership duties (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions):

  •  Assist departments with educational needs assessments for AAC staff and departments.
  • Develop educational curricula for AAC staff/departments meeting AAC standards, accreditation requirements, and state and federal regulations.
  • Implement educational curricula for AAC staff in both class-room and real-time clinical settings as needed to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
  • Evaluate adoption of educational curricula into workflows and practices by AAC staff and provide appropriate follow-up as needed.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Application Specialist to ensure proper use of EHR by AAC staff in provision of care, documentation, and other workflows as needed.
  • Coordinate with nursing leaders and nursing preceptors to evaluate progress of new hire nurses.
  • Perform research to aid in development of educational material/courses, assist with policy and procedure development, and enhance practices of care and safety performed by AAC staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of best-practices, evidenced base research, accreditation requirements, and scopes of practice.
  • Establish practice of Grand Rounds for continued education of AAC staff
  • Develops patient care plans, incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards; consults with and serves as a resource to ensure quality client care.
  • Educates appropriate AAC staff in the use of equipment, supplies, and resources through classroom and real time learning opportunities
  • Provides direct specialized nursing services to an assigned group of clients, providing specialized patient care within nursing protocols and assisting in the performance of all related nursing duties.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Behavioral Health Experience/Psych Health Experience preferred
  • Unrestricted license to practice in state of employment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Thorough understanding of nursing scope of practice and standards within addiction/substance abuse treatment.
  • Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff.
  • Ability to read and comprehend accreditation and certification requirements for site specific sources (Joint Commisions, CARF, etc).
  • Ability to assess educational needs.
  • Working knowledge of educational resource development tools including PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.
  • Advanced nursing skills in substance abuse/addiction treatment.
  • Working knowledge of the use of established care models in the development of education programs.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.

  • Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually.  Ability to stand, walk and reach frequently. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine.  Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.
  • Work environment is indoors and climate controlled.  Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving light traffic.
