The primary role of the Treatment Advocate Supervisor is in providing direct and support services to female or male drug and alcohol abusers. Specifically, the main functions of the Treatment Advocate are 1) Supervision of Treatment Advocates, 2) Supervision of the clients, and 3) Ensuring their participation in treatment related services and facilitating psycho-educational and recreational activities.  


Shift: Saturday and Sunday 8:00am to 8:30pm


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises Treatment Advocates for specific shift  
  • Assists in supervision of client activities and be aware of client safety and whereabouts at all times, including breaks and internal activities 

  • Attend all mandatory trainings and monthly clinical department meetings as directed  
  • Engages clients in therapeutic activities as appropriate 
  • Provides a brief overview of the housing program in regard to program rules, procedures, and services with each new client 
  • Distributes daily mail to clients and observes confidentiality standards 

  • Maintains order and ensures compliance with rules and regulations; ensures that clients conduct themselves in an orderly manner 
  • Monitors and document’s clients for signs of medical distress and/or behavioral concerns on an ongoing basis and through routine bed checks 

  • Provides appropriate support and structure for clients in dealing with their recovery; interacts continually with clients 
  • Monitors client wake-up and bedtime, escorts residents on shopping trips, recreation, meetings, medical appointments, etc. 
  • Enforces program rules at all times 
  • Records accurate and up-to-date reports on every client and continually updates the bed list(s) to ensure that all admissions and discharges are recorded in a timely fashion
  • Responds appropriately to all medical and other emergencies 
  • Conducts search of all client bags when being admitted to the facility and/or returning from appointments.  Confiscates and secures any contraband found, and notifies the appropriate administrator  
  • Randomly inspects all rooms, common areas, hallways and bathrooms as needed and perform a thorough search for contraband, no less than weekly 
  • Facilitates psycho-education groups as directed by supervisor within the scope of job description or certification 

  • Ensure shift reports are thorough and completed for shift worked

  • Ensures all communications regarding patients and/or staff members are documented in a) end of shift report; b) incident report; c) patient medical record
  • Attend all required in-services trainings and clinical department meetings 
  • Complete all required all online educations required
  • Maintain compliance with all Division of Mental Health and Addiction services (DMHAS) regulations and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards 
  • Maintains adherence to Sunrise House/AAC policies, procedures and practices 
  • Other duties assigned in the scope of the job title

Management ONLY Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for managing direct reports
  • Preparation and presentation of performance evaluations 

  • Provides appropriate training for department and hold staff accountable for attending required training 
  • Holds interviews for vacant positions and appropriately selects candidates to fill open positions 
  • Responsible for recommending and ensuring regulatory staffing patterns and managing annual budget 
  • Monitors adherence to company and department policies, procedures and practices 

  • Provides objective feedback to employees 
  • Completes end of shift report
  • Oversees monitoring of documentation of urines, body searches, and luggage searches 
  • Monitoring lunch time and breaks for other TAs on shift 
  • Facilitates delivery of electronics over to triage to appropriate staff 
  • Ensure communications involving incidents or issues to appropriate staff 
  • Creates and supports a positive professional, team-oriented, harassment free work environment by understanding and complying with the company’s policies

  • Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving in traffic.   



  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • State recognized (IC&RC) alcohol and drug certification preferred or working towards certification 
  • Minimum of two (2) year experience in a hospital or clinical environment, substance abuse and mental health background preferred 
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic philosophies, theories, and behavioral intervention techniques 
  • Knowledge of utilizing electronic health record software and documentation 
  • Age 25, required by insurance carrier (if driving clients) 
  • Customer service driven with a genuine interest in the well-being of those we serve  
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
