Job Summary:


This position is the clearing desk for the office. The multiple functions performed by the medical record technician allows for medical records and information to flow throughout the AdCare system. This is key to moving records to the coders for coding assignment and releasing of the bills to facilitate the reimbursement process. The quantitative analysis function identifies deficiencies, missing reports, records needed for clinics for continuing care. The relocation and collation activities are also a major portion of records management. Medical records must be retrievable for the ongoing care of all patients.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform quantitative analysis on 100% of the medical records for discharged patients.
  • Maintains a complete, accurate, and up-to-date disease index in terms of the demographic information entered.
  • Performs regular office functions including answering the telephone, photocopying, faxing, receiving and distributing mail on a timely basis.
  • Provides coverage for others in similar job tasks.
  • Collates medical records



  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical office training preferred.
  • Certification although not required is preferred.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of unit-based, terminal digit filing system.
  • Ability to decipher handwriting.
  • Interpretation of requests for medical records.
  • Ability to prioritize work on a computer.
  • Ability to identify documents for inclusion in the medical record maintaining complete and accurate discharge index determining between a subpoena and properly executed court order.
  • Multitask-oriented
  • Telephone/communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Previous office experience in a physician's office or other health care environment desirable.
